Shopify web design and store setup for brands that want to sell online without fighting their own website. I set up the theme, products, collections and checkout with SEO planned from the start, so your store is quick, easy to manage and ready for search from launch day.
New online shops, brands moving to Shopify, and stores that look fine but don't sell.
Shopify web design is planning, designing and setting up an online shop on Shopify, the hosted e-commerce platform. It covers the theme, product and collection structure, navigation, checkout settings, apps, speed and SEO, so the store looks right, loads fast and is easy for your team to run.
Shopify takes care of hosting, security and the checkout, which is why so many shops choose it. You don't manage servers or software updates; you manage products, orders and marketing. Most of the work in a good Shopify build is structure: how products are grouped into collections, how people find them and how quickly pages load.
Shopify handles a lot of SEO basics for you. Every store generates a sitemap automatically, and the default robots.txt can be customised if it ever needs to be. URLs follow a fixed pattern, such as /products/ and /collections/, so the focus moves to collection pages, product content, internal links and keeping duplicate pages under control.
The biggest risk is apps. Each one can add scripts to every page, and too many slow the store down, especially on phones. I keep the app list short, use theme features where they do the job, and test speed on mobile before launch.
Collections, navigation, filters and URLs planned around how your customers shop and search.
A theme chosen to suit your products, then customised to your brand rather than left looking like the demo.
Templates and content for products and collections, with clear photos, descriptions and the details buyers look for.
Only the apps you need for reviews, subscriptions, shipping or marketing, each checked for its effect on speed.
Payments, taxes, shipping zones and order notifications set up and tested end to end before launch.
Titles, meta descriptions, image alt text, structured data and Search Console, with collection pages ready to rank.
Products, customers and content moved from WooCommerce or another platform, with old URLs redirected to their new pages.
A walkthrough of adding products, managing orders and editing pages, so your team can run the store with confidence.
Store already live and needs more traffic? See e-commerce SEO. Moving from another platform? See website migration.
Both run successful shops. The right choice depends on how much you want to manage yourself and how much flexibility you need.
| Compare | Shopify | WooCommerce |
|---|---|---|
| Hosting | Included in your plan | You arrange your own |
| Updates and security | Handled by Shopify | You or your developer keep it updated |
| Running costs | Monthly plan, plus apps and possible transaction fees | Hosting, plus any paid extensions |
| Flexibility | Flexible within Shopify's rules | Almost anything, with more upkeep |
| SEO control | Good, with a fixed URL structure | Full control over URLs and structure |
Prefer WordPress? See WordPress web design. I'll recommend whichever suits your shop, not whichever suits me.
We talk about your products, your customers, how you sell now and what the store needs to do.
I plan the structure, theme and apps, and for existing stores I map every URL that matters.
Theme, products and checkout set up with your feedback at each stage, then speed, mobile and order tests.
Launch with tracking, Search Console and redirects in place, then training so you can run the store.
It depends on the number of products, how much design work is needed, the apps you need and whether you're moving from another platform. After a short call I'll give you a clear quote.
It depends on the size of the catalogue, how ready your product content is and how quickly feedback comes back. I'll give you a timeline once the plan is agreed.
Shopify suits most shops that want hosting, security and checkout handled for them. WooCommerce suits shops that want full control and already run WordPress. I'll talk through both before recommending one.
Yes. Adding products, managing orders and editing pages are all straightforward in Shopify, and I show you how before hand-over.
A good structure from day one gives it the best start: clear collections, useful product content and fast pages. Ranking for competitive searches usually takes ongoing work too. See e-commerce SEO.
Yes. I move products, customers and content, map the old URLs to their new pages and set up redirects, so you keep the rankings you've built.
Usually I customise a well-built theme rather than starting from scratch, which keeps costs down and updates simple. Custom sections are added where your products need them.
Fewer than you might think. Many shops only need a handful, for reviews, email and shipping. I'll recommend apps based on what you sell and check each one for speed.
Usually, yes. Slow stores are often down to large images, too many apps or heavy theme features. I find what's slowing it down and fix it.
Yes. Payments, taxes, shipping zones and order emails are set up and tested with real test orders before launch.
Yes. Shopify supports selling in several countries, currencies and languages, and I can set that up along with the right shipping and tax settings.
I can, or I can edit what you have so it's clearer and works for search. See content marketing for larger catalogues.
You do. The store is in your own Shopify account and you pay Shopify directly, so you stay in control.
I keep an eye on orders, speed and Search Console in the weeks after launch and fix anything that comes up. After that, you can run it yourself or carry on with ongoing support.
Yes. Many projects start with a store that's live but slow, messy or hard to manage. I review it first and tell you honestly what's worth fixing.
Tell me where things stand and what you'd like to change. I'll reply personally with honest next steps.
